Report examines the establishment of fish stock recovery areas
According to an independent study, which was presented to European Parliament fish stock recovery areas must cover at least "10-20% of the territorial waters of Member States of the EU."
These areas provide rapid and long-lasting recovery of fish stocks after a period of 1-2 years from their definition, annual growth of 2-4% per haul, increase of the reproduction at levels close to 30%, replacement with eggs and juveniles of marine space within and beyond the recovery area and many other positive outcomes which breadth and scope exceeds their narrow limits and affect much larger marine areas.
